ABOUT THE ARTIST

"Busy hands are happy hands", so the saying goes.  And you can bet that Mel has a pair that "grin" from her fingertips to her wrists!  Mellodye O'Harrow is the owner and operator of Super Stitches, a company "specializing in handmade crafts from wood, fabric and whatnot!"

Mel has always been artistic and remembers watching her mother at the sewing machine, embroidering, quilting and making clothes.  Her talent most likely stems from those early beginnings.  She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Art Education with a minor in Journalism.  Throughout her years of employment in sales, reception, radio and television, Mellodye crafted for friends, family, gift-giving and charitable contributions, but always dreamed of pursuing her love of art as a full-time career.

Several years ago, with the encouragement of her husband, family and friends, Mel decided it was time to venture into the entrepreneurial world and establish her own business.  "After all, if I don't make a 'go' of it, I can always go out and find a real job", she quipped.  A "real job" indeed!  Super Stitches has grown to be a successful endeavor, keeping her busy with designing, marketing, manufacturing and bookkeeping twenty-four/seven!

Her husband Jim is her major cheerleader and supporter whose favorite question is "Whatcha' makin' hon?"  Even with his own career and varied interests, he manages to help out.  From screening ideas, cutting wood, offering encouragement, and being her biggest fan and critic, Jim has a constant hand in the business.  "She's truly the most creative person I've ever met", Jim says.  "She's always making something out of nothing - in more ways than one!"

Mel's "wood, fabric and whatnot" creations have been marketed in recent years through consignment shops, craft show and private sales.  "It's so satisfying to be able to make my living doing what I love!  Not many people can say they are truly happy and adore their vocation the way I do!", says Mel.   With the growing demand, she's now presenting her extensive craft line to you on her Super Stitches Web Site, and hopes you enjoy the fruits of her labor as much as she enjoys creating them for you!
